This website is under development.  We are continuing to recruit to complete our Board of Directors and Board of Advisors.  Research is also continuing to complete the content of our Programs section.  The purpose of this preliminary version of the website is simply to explain the concept of the site and the way it functions.  Watch for the complete site soon.

OUR MISSION

Scroll Group 2.png

The mission of Power of Jobs is to help connect job seekers with job providers so that people can get the jobs they want and employers can fill vacant positions. We are a non-profit organization serving everyone in Boston who wants a job, with a special focus on communities of color, youth and returning citizens. Our website is the only single resource for information about all the free services available from the many job-related organizations in the Boston area.

Companies, schools, city/state/federal government, and many other organizations need to fill jobs.  Unemployed people are seeking jobs; many employed people are seeking better jobs.  But there is a disconnect.  Job-providing organizations aren’t reaching enough of the people who want the jobs.  And people seeking jobs aren’t aware of all the opportunities available to them.  Hence, our mission to help make the connection.

We also have broader goals: reducing poverty, building wealth, fighting racism, and strengthening community.  We believe focusing on jobs is essential to meeting these goals.

In executing our mission, we are encouraged that more and more employers are seeing the value of diversity, equity and inclusion, and are now hiring based on skills instead of depending mostly on college degrees.

Why jobs

Jobs have a distinctive power to build personal wealth and dignity, build a family, build community, build a business, and give the next generation a head start.
