MUA’s program will help English Language Learners to complete a Medical Assistant Training (CMA) program, consisting of 320 hours of instruction followed by a 160-hour externship. Complete this application to be added to the waiting list. This training typically begins every October and February.

The 16-week Medical Administrative Assistant training program prepares participants for general registration and front desk administrative office support, including basic medical terminology, overview of billing and claims processing, HIPAA and OSHA guidelines, and health insurance overview. At the conclusion of training, participants will take a certification exam to receive their industry recognized Medical Administrative Assistant credential.

NECAT provides a 14-week culinary skills training program to prepare Boston residents, including returning citizens, people experiencing homelessness, and individuals in substance abuse recovery, for careers in restaurant and hotel kitchens. The program combines training in socio-emotional development, career readiness, and industry specific training.

We require all interested students to attend an Info Session. These are held every Tuesday at 9:30AM at our training center at 23 Bradston Street, 2R. No RSVP is necessary. Prepares students for entry-level positions in the rapidly growing food services sector. Training involves a mix of classroom curriculum with hands-on experience, and job placement assistance. Participants learn about knife skills; food preparation; customer service; meal planning; food safety and sanitation; inventory management, and point-of-sale systems. At the end of the program students are prepared for the ServeSafe Manager’s exam, and are eligible to apply for employment with Community Work Services’ Culinary Team.

This training track prepares residents for jobs that require a CDL license for potential placement in various City departments. It includes:

  • A job readiness bridge course and site visits to participating city agencies, and

  • Training and test preparation leading to a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and Hoisting Licenses (1C/2A classifications)

Commercial Production Training Program

Commercial Production Training Program Training includes order fulfillment; folding, sealing, sorting, bundling; small parts packaging, and inventory control/warehousing. Participants are trained in workplace safety, food processing equipment/tasks, and mail tasks, including shipping and receiving.

Facilities Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship 18 month program for young people aged 18-24 consists of classroom instruction and on-the-job training that leads to a sustainable career as a Facilities Maintenance Technician. Apprentices learn basic plumbing, electrical, and mechanical skills, cleaning and preventative maintenance, pest management, landscaping, and occupational health and safety while they are employed full time with an employer sponsor. The YMCA of Greater Boston is launching a unique Early Childhood Apprenticeship Program for individuals to grow their career in the joyful and rewarding field of early childhood education. Individuals enrolled in the Early Childhood Apprenticeship Program will get paid to gain early childhood education teacher credentials. Apprentices will get paid for 150 hours of learning and instruction, participate in at least 2,000 hours of on-the-job training, and they will be paired with a mentor teacher. Property Management Certification The YMCA Training Inc is offering a free in-person learning experience to help participants gain the skills to be successful in the property management field. This 10-week program prepares trainees for property management administrative careers. Participants will learn Property Management terminology, resident customer service best practices, rent calculations and housing recertification processes. Trainees will also have opportunities for on-site learning and job shadow at local property management locations. The curriculum and instruction will prepare trainees to complete the 3-day Certified Professional of Occupancy Training and Certification exam administered by New England Affordable Housing Management Association. At the end of the program, trainees will be connected to property management employers for further job shadow and options for full time work rotations.

BTR combines a yearlong classroom apprenticeship with targeted master’s level coursework to provide you with the hands-on experience, feedback, evaluation and ongoing post-graduate support critical to a successful career in teaching. During the Residency Year, Residents: 

  • Co-teach with collaborating teachers and experienced teacher educators

  • Earn a M.Ed. awarded by UMass Boston (<$8,000 tuition)

  • Earn MA Initial Teacher Licensure and SEI endorsement

X-Cel Conservation Corps prepares young adults for the MA Grade 3 municipal wastewater operator licensure by combining classroom instruction and conservation work projects. In addition to obtaining an industry recognized certification in a field with an average starting salary of $25.85/hr, participants will receive assistance obtaining a driver's license, and a used vehicle.

Intake assessment required.The assessment is a series of reading test that assess your reading level. Students must have at least a fourth-grade reading level to be accepted into our program.

MassEducate covers the full cost of tuition and fees for all eligible students. Students may qualify for an allowance of up to $1,200 for books and supplies based on income level. Some students may also be eligible for an additional allowance (up to $1,200) to help with other costs of attending college.

Applicants Must: 

  • have physically resided in Massachusetts for at least one year 

  • enroll, as a matriculated student, on a full-time or part-time basis (minimum of 6 credits per term, or the equivalent) 

  • be a U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, or non-citizen eligible under Title IV regulations 

  • complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the Massachusetts Application for State Financial Aid (MASFA)

Project Opportunity is an initiative that creates equitable opportunities for Boston residents with CORIs. 

HOW IT WORKS

  • Fill out a short form to sign up, you will be contacted within 1 week to confirm your registration.

  • Lawyers Clearinghouse will call you to schedule your clinic date and get your consent to access a copy of your CORI. This may take some time depending on the waitlist.

  • Meet with volunteer attorneys for 30-60 minutes over video conferencing or phone to discuss your eligibility for sealing/expungement.

  • If you are eligible, the attorneys will work with you on filing a petition to request sealing and/or expungement and discuss next steps. If you are not currently eligible, they will discuss your timeline for eligibility.
