Culinary Training Program
Eligibility:

Able to lift 50 pounds, push 250 pounds, and stand for 4 hours
Able to begin work immediately
Training program that prepares graduates for union line cook jobs at a partner hotels. BEST currently offers three programs to start your career in the hospitality industry. They host weekly Information Sessions every Tuesday at 11AM at our Seaport Training Center located at 450 Summer Street in Boston, MA (located within the Omni Boston Hotel at the Seaport). Please attend an Info Session to apply to the programs and complete this form.

150-hour Massachusetts registered pre-apprenticeship program in hotel housekeeping. The program is a free training that prepares graduates for union housekeeping jobs at one of our partner hotels.

Special Focus - People who have experienced homelessness
The Teaching Kitchen is a free 12-week job training program for people interested in careers in the food service industry who face barriers to employment High-need Boston residents experiencing multiple barriers to employment such as criminal records, poverty, substance use disorder, and homelessness through skills training and supportive services.

We require all interested students to attend an Info Session. These are held every Tuesday at 9:30AM at our training center at 23 Bradston Street, 2R. No RSVP is necessary. Please contact Elise Brandwein at ebrandwein@ne-cat.org or 857-289-1019 with any questions. All candidates will need to participate in a two-step application process, which begins with the Info Session.
NECAT provides a 14-week culinary skills training program to prepare Boston residents, including returning citizens, people experiencing homelessness, and individuals in substance abuse recovery, for careers in restaurant and hotel kitchens. The program combines training in socio-emotional development, career readiness, and industry specific training.

Culinary Training Program

Prepares students for entry-level positions in the rapidly growing food services sector. Training involves a mix of classroom curriculum with hands-on experience, and job placement assistance. Participants learn about knife skills; food preparation; customer service; meal planning; food safety and sanitation; inventory management, and point-of-sale systems. At the end of the program students are prepared for the ServeSafe Manager’s exam, and are eligible to apply for employment with Community Work Services’ Culinary Team.

Culinary Arts and English as a Second Language Training Program The Education & Training Branch partners with the New England Culinary Arts Training (NECAT) and the East Boston YMCA Branch to deliver a dual language job training program in the culinary arts. This integrated education and training program provides contextualized English instruction and job training in both Spanish and English. The program combines English instruction and literacy activities with workforce preparation activities, workforce training, employment supports, and industry recognized credentialing.
